What is DMR
Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is an international standard for two-way radios that transmits voice and data in non-public radio networks. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) created the standard in 2005 to address commercial markets. The standard has been updated several times since its creation.
What is Ad-hoc Network system
An ad hoc network is a temporary, wireless network that allows devices to connect and communicate without a central router or server. It also known as a mobile ad hoc network (MANET), is a self-configuring network of mobile devices that can communicate without relying on a pre-existing infrastructure or a centralized administration. The network is formed dynamically as devices come into the range of each other, allowing them to exchange data peer-to-peer.
DMR is very popular mobile radios for two audio communication. In the following table, In terms of networking methods, we made a comparison between IWAVE Ad-hoc network system and DMR .
IWAVE Ad-hoc System | DMR | |
Wired link | No need | Required |
Initiate a call | As quick as regular walkie-talkies | The call is initiated by the control channel |
Anti-damage ability | Strong
1. The system doesn’t rely on any wired link or fixed infrastructure. 2. Connection between each device is wireless. 3. Each device are powered by built-in battery. So, the whole system has strong anti- damage ability |
Weak
1. The hardware is complex 2. The system's operation relies on wired links. 3. Once the infrastructure is destroyed by disaster. The system will not work normally. so, its anti-damage ability is weak. |
Switch | 1. No need wired switch 2. Adopts air wireless switch |
Switch is required |
Coverage | Because the base station adopts mirroring technology, the rf is cross radiated. Therefore, the system has a better coverage with fewer blind spots | More blind spots |
Centerless ad hoc network | Yes | Yes |
Expansion capacity | Expand the capacity without limitation | Limited expansion: Limited by frequency or other factors |
Hardware | Simple structure, light weight and small size | Complex structure and big size |
Sensitive | -126dBm | DMR: -120dbm |
Hot backup | Multiple base stations can be used in parallel for mutual hot backup | Not support directly performing hot backup |
Fast deployment | Yes | No |
